The American Energy Security Study

The American Energy Security StudyThe American Energy Security Study inspired this website.  Released in July 2006 by the Southern States Energy Board (SSEB), this groundbreaking national study developed an aggressive and comprehensive plan for America to establish independence from foreign oil.  It was determined that American could rid itself of costly and risky dependence on oil imports by aggressively expanding the production of alternative liquid fuels from its vast domestic energy resources that include coal, biomass, and oil shale.

The plan also featured the opportunity to dramatically increase domestic oil production using a well proven technique that extracts otherwise unrecoverable oil from mature oil fields using carbon dioxide injection.  This technique is called CO2 Enhanced Oil Recovery, or “CO2 EOR”, and it offers the additional potential of sequestering massive quantities of CO2 that would otherwise be emitted into the atmosphere safely underground.  The study also recommended increasing transportation efficiencies and sensible energy conservation as part of its energy independence roadmap.

A new series of American Energy Security Study modules has been called for by the SSEB’s board of directors (governors and state legislators) to update and expand the original initiative.  This will be done in increments, with the first four new modules planned to address some of the most pressing energy issues of the day, namely: (1) Productive Applications for Industrial Carbon Dioxide; (2) U.S. Energy Resource Assessment and a Balanced Utilization Plan; (3) The Critical Role of Abundant, Low Cost Electricity in the U.S.; and (4) Transportation Efficiency Options, Fuels, and Deployment.  For information on becoming a sponsor for these mini-studies, please send an information request to: AESStudyInfo@AmericanEnergySecurity.org.  News relating to this ongoing energy initiative will be reported right here.
